The only question is, why has it taken this long for David Gandy to launch into men’s underwear? The former model (think Dolce & Gabbana in 2006 and all points thereafter), style icon and leisurewear creator under his now-two-year-old Wellwear label, has finally launched an intimates line.

And it comes with a USP, according to Gandy: “This is simply the most flattering design on the market, but it isn’t about being sexy for other people. It’s about how you feel when you put them on.”
He says the goal is simple: “To refine the essentials of all-day menswear with ease, comfort, and wellbeing in mind. Be that unbeatable loungewear, world class pyjamas, or the perfect white T-shirt.”
After two years of research and development comes ‘The Ultimate Trunk’ based on years of personal product frustration across his career, Gandy noting that “there has never been a single pair of pants that made the cut. I’ve never had a go-to pair of underwear. I’ve worn every brand you can imagine, but nothing ever wowed me. Underwear has always been either logo-driven, over-designed, or just uncomfortable.”
Indeed, his Wellwear brand undertook a survey, asking over 50,000 of its customers what they look for when it comes to underwear: 80% said they don’t like visible logos; 50% said they preferred shorter-length trunks; and 70% wear the same style of underwear all day, “so versatility is paramount”.
In response, the Ultimate Trunk “sets a new standard in men’s underwear… no gimmicks, no eye-catching logos, no disappointing fits”. Instead, there’s the promise of “all-day comfort and reliable quality, at a price that makes sense [£45 for pack of three, £16 for single pair]”.
Available in Navy, Black, and White, the trunk is produced in a blend of cotton, modal, and elastane, treated with Wellwear’s antibacterial, anti-odour ‘Wellwear Breathe’ nanotechnology “for superior softness, stretch, and durability”.
Gandy added: “Softness is a serious business. Underwear might be unseen, but the right pair can completely change how you feel: grounded, secure, and confident.”
